Women, boy stabbed at Japanese school bus stop near Shanghai

A Japanese woman and her son were wounded and a Chinese woman was seriously injured Monday in a knife attack at a bus stop and aboard a Japanese school bus in Suzhou near Shanghai, according to a consulate general official.

There was no indication that the suspect, believed to be Chinese, intentionally targeted Japanese nationals, the official of the Japanese Consulate General in Shanghai said. Chinese police said the man is 52 years old and unemployed.上海养生网

According to the official, the two Japanese victims were taken to a hospital. While their injuries were not life-threatening, the boy had a deep stab wound to the back and cuts.

The attacker was subdued at the scene.

The woman in her 30s and her son were waiting for another child to return from school in the city in Jiangsu Province, home to many Japanese nationals and production facilities, the official said, adding the Chinese woman was a bus attendant.爱上海

After the man stabbed the Japanese woman and her son at the bus stop, he got on the school bus as it arrived there and attacked the Chinese woman, according to Japanese government sources.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning expressed regret over the stabbing and told a press conference it was an “isolated incident” that could happen in any country in the world.

She pledged that China will take effective measures to protect the safety of foreigners in the country.

The attack sparked concern among the local Japanese community, with one male resident saying, “I was really surprised because this area was known to be safe. I feel sorry” for those injured.

The school was closed Tuesday. Security guards and those believed to be plainclothes officers kept watch near its front gate.

A cleaner who visited the stabbing scene immediately after the incident told Kyodo News that police had confiscated what appeared to be a 20-centimeter-long knife.

Japan’s top government spokesman Yoshimasa Hayashi told a regular press conference in Tokyo that the attack was regrettable, adding the consulate general had requested that Chinese authorities share detailed information.爱上海同城论坛

The Japanese Embassy in Beijing issued a safety alert, saying stabbings have occurred recently at crowded locations in China including parks and schools.

On June 10, four teachers from Cornell College in the U.S上海花千坊. state of Iowa and a Chinese person were stabbed by a man at a park in Jilin Province, northeastern China, after one of the teachers and the assailant bumped against each other. None of the injuries were life-threatening, according to local police.上海品茶网
